What does it take to become a pediatric cardiologist

Okay well most medical schools will not require u to have a degree in particular, but rather u must fullfil general requirements (These vary among schools, be sure to look at the school u want to apply for) For instance, McGill university is in Canada, it is a very respected medical school & it is requirements r somewhat different from schools in the United States.
To get into Medical school u need a decent GPA they say above a 3.0 which translates to something about 3.5-4.0 (depending on the school u r applying to).
You should have clinical experience, most schools look for that. What most people do is just find a doctor, ask him if u can stick around & do some paper work for him (usually u will get a salary).
You need letters of recommendations from several professors. Preferably professors that r in the medical field, or in an area similar.
You should do some undergraduate research or even publish a few papers yourself (Some of my friends have gone down that path).
You should also be prepared to pay for medical school, its not cheap if u do not have a fellowship or scholarship to back it up.
Yes, it takes many years of studying, field-work, not to mention some way to keep yourself from starving while studying.
Try to get in contact with a professor in the college u want to attend, maybe he will see that u really r ''serious'' about medical school & vouch for u during admissions.
Most importantly, u should be interested in this in some way. Yes there r people that like the paycheck, & yes some people do it for just that reason although it will be much easier on u if u have a drive for yourself for all those years in school besides the financial reward.
Will all of this guarantee that u will become a doctor? No, not really. These r just some of the things I found out about people trying to get into medical school. Medical schools in general r quite competitive, especially in the U.S. I am not a doctor, so perhaps if u really want to know about it, go ask a pediatric cardiologist (I doubt they r surfing trying to get points).

You can get ur undergraduate degree in whatever field u like, even if it is English or Philosophy. However, u must take all of ur college is PRE-MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS, which r classes that r needed to qualify for medical school. (These classes depend on which college u go to, but generally they r 1 year of biology, 1 year of physics, 2 years chemistry, & 1 year english). You also need to take the MCAT, which is basically the SAT for medical schools. To have a chance of getting into any med school in georgia/tennessee, u will need at least a 3.5 GPA & an MCAT score of about 32.

If u get into med school, u will need to complete 4 years of med school, 5 years general surgery residency & 2 years cardiac surgery residency OR 6 years cardiology residency, & then 2 years pediatric cardiology fellowship. So assuming u do not take any breaks in between schools, u will have to study, starting today, an extra 16 or 17 YEARS to become a fully-certified pediatric cardiac surgeon.

There r 4 medical schools in Georgia (http://edref.com/college-degrees/health-care/medical/georgia) & 3 in Tennessee (http://edref.com/college-degrees/health-care/medical/tennessee). These medical schools might not have cardiac surgery or cardiology programs, & u may need to apply out of state for them.

If u become a successful pediatric cardiologist u can make well over a million dollars annually.
